The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Might Solve This
Whenever a prominent honors show nears, one notices a demand for the addition fresh award types to honor unsung work and fill the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies currently feature classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game got overlooked in any category in 2014
- Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
- Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into niche award types
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games globally maintaining this status for over a decade.
The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
